Auction 4 Audiology Raises Over $9,000 for AAAF
We couldn’t leave Texas without a duel.
In fact, there were quite a few duels as convention attendees outbid one another for must-have items in AAAF’s online Auction 4 Audiology. Though the auction officially began on March 23, the bidding started to heat up during AudiologyNOW! in Dallas. Close to 60 items were displayed at the AAAF booth including getaways, electronics, gift baskets, art, and more. Two computer terminals allowed attendees to easily register and place bids with just a couple of clicks. This 21st century auction also kept bidders up-to-date with automated emails alerting them to any activity on their items. Some bidders shared a strategy (wait until the closing seconds and then pounce) while others simply relied on a bit of luck and good timing.
The highest bid in the auction was for the signed Gibson Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker Electric Guitar donated by Oticon, Inc.. Jett was a rock and roll tour de force at the Hearing With Our Hearts benefit performance on April 2, and this guitar will no doubt do wonders for one’s rock street cred. Other hot bids included registration and accommodations at AudiologyNOW! 2010 (donated by American Academy of Audiology), a beautiful Pendleton wool blanket (donated by Frye Electronics, Inc) and a weekend at the Hartstone Inn and a gourmet dinner at the Loavenbruck residence in Maine (donated by Angela Loavenbruck).
The auction shut its digital doors on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at high noon (CT) and raised over $9,000.00 for the AAAF to support research, education, and public awareness in audiology and the hearing sciences. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and helped make our auction such a success.
